Many of our residents are living with some degree of dementia – according to the Alzheimers Society, 1 in 6 people over the age of 80 are living with dementia, and these figures are set to rise.  Many people with dementia can live extremely happy and settled lives in our homes, supported by staff who know and understand them and can help them to enjoy life at our homes to the full.  We offer our staff specialist dementia training and have many activities to promote the skills that people still retain, even when some memories start to fade.  We also have access to specialist dementia support in the community through the NHS where the need arises.  If you have worries about dementia there are various sources of support you can access including the Alzheimers Society or the Norfolk and Suffolk Dementia Alliance.

Every resident in our care has access to their own GP.  Often GPs will carry out regular ward rounds of their patients, or will do home visits when the need arises, just as they would at home.  Our nurses will also phone the GP or other healthcare professionals to seek advice and support.

Many of our residents find that they are able to access some means of financial support to help them fund their nursing care. Funding can seem like a complicated issue and we are always happy to share our knowledge of this area to see if you may be eligible for NHS Continuing Health Care, or other NHS support that is not means tested. Additionally, depending on your financial circumstances, you may be eligible for support from Social Services. Please talk to us and we can help signpost you appropriately.

Every so often we may not live up to the high standards that we set for ourselves. Your feedback is very important to ensure that we are able to address any issues and prevent them happening again. In the first instance you should speak to the nurse in charge, but if that is not possible, we would encourage you to pop in to see the home manager, or give them a call so that they can help you.
