A Festive Day for Residents, Families and the Local Community

Brandon Park’s recent community Christmas event was a wonderful success, filling the home with festive cheer and bringing together residents, families, and visitors of all ages for a truly heart-warming afternoon.

The animals were a particular highlight and proved to be a huge draw throughout the day. Residents delighted in spending time petting and cuddling the rabbits and guinea pigs, with many moments sparking smiles, laughter, and conversation. One resident, who usually speaks very little, was even moved to smile and comment on how lovely the animals were — a touching moment that perfectly captured the joy and magic of the day.

Everyone also enjoyed a traditional fish and chip lunch from the visiting van, with many residents reminiscing fondly about how it reminded them of fish and chips just as they remembered them from years gone by, adding a comforting sense of nostalgia to the celebrations.

Throughout the afternoon, we welcomed a steady stream of visitors from the local community, all keen to soak up the festive atmosphere. Guests enjoyed browsing the stalls, warming up with refreshments, meeting the animals, and spending time with Father Christmas. Over 25 local children were thrilled to meet Father Christmas and each received a free gift, while many also enjoyed feeding the goats and pony and getting up close with the animals.

In total, approximately 60 people attended the event, including residents, family members, children, and members of the wider community. The event was free to attend, with donations welcomed. Our kitchen team ran a popular stall offering homemade gingerbread and hot drinks, while a craft stall showcased festive items lovingly made by residents from our Memory Centre.

Together, these stalls raised just under £100, helping to support future activities and seasonal celebrations for our residents.

The day was a fantastic celebration of the festive season and a lovely reminder of the joy that comes from bringing generations together. We were delighted to share such a special afternoon with our community and look forward to welcoming everyone back again very soon.
